asante is a Ghanaian-American singer/producer residing in Detroit, MI. He began his artistic exploration singing in phrases that appeared to contain and conceal words. In an effort to deduce meaning from asante's lyrics, listeners assigned an individualistic connection to the music. He also uses this as a method of songwriting, which is exemplified on his 2016 release "The Ladyfriends Collection". His most popular song, "I Know, Imani", started as a voice memo of him playing the piano and singing that he sent to his friends Dpat and atu to work with. As a producer, asante has worked with Sonder, River Tiber, Kaytranada, Sango, and more. asante also is the founder of Jerk X Jollof, a popular Afro-Caribbean event that started in Detroit in 2016 and has traveled to Los Angeles, Toronto, Philadelphia and more.
After a handful of single releases in 2017, asante released his first afrobeats EP, sleek boy, on August 24th, 2018. Watch asante travel back to Ghana for the first time in 12 years in his documentary "ORIGINS", shot by Corey Johnson, at mindofasante.com
