#rpDetroit Speaker Monica Lewis-Patrick: The Greatest Challenge to Accessing Water

Monica Lewis-Patrick is educator, entrepreneur, human rights activist and advocate. She is co-founder of We The People of Detroit, where she served as Director of Community Outreach and Engagement since 2009 and became President and CEO of the organization in 2014. Through her work with We the People she has set up emergency water stations, opened hotlines, delivered water, provided education and conducted community research to raise awareness about water shutoffs and water affordability in Flint (Michigan) and Detroit.

What message do you want to share at re:publica Detroit?
Water is a Human Right!

From your experience, what are challenges regarding access to Access to Water in Detroit?
The greatest challenge to accessing water in Detroit is regionalization (privatization), rates and racism.

What are you looking forward to most at re:publica Detroit?
I am most looking forward to sharing with re:publica Detroit the incredible depth of "belovedness" in Detroit and the "transformative revolutionary thinking" that's rooted in the DNA of our community!
